The forecast for this weekend looks awful. “We’ll see about a month’s worth of rain in about 48 hours,” is how one radio personality put it. For anyone hoping to see DC United on Friday or Redskins on Sunday, this weekend will not provide an ideal setting for spectator sports. Walking around Old Town is even out of the question.
However, crummy weather should not stop you from enjoying Alexandria and DC. Here are a few things to get you out of the house while staying dry:
- Did you know that Alexandria is a Top 10 area for crafts? Well, you can find out why during American Craft Week! American Craft Week is held from October 2 to October 11 and there are activities happening every day. Specifically for this weekend, I think October 3rd provides a lot of fun. There will be a demonstration on how to make soap infused loofahs at Art on the Avenue in Del Ray.
- Start the weekend with some great music on Friday night. Pat McGee and Friends will be performing at 7:30pm at the Birchmere. Pat McGee is a Virginia local and is very celebrated in the area. Friday is supposed to be the heaviest rain fall, so be sure to bring your umbrellas to shield yourself going to and from the venue.
- If by Sunday you haven’t gotten out of the house and just need a change of scenery, there are plenty of places around Old Town to watch NFL football. I recommend checking out Theismann’s near the King St Metro. There are plenty of TVs and bar seating. You’ll be sure to find your favorite team on one of the screens.
However you spend this rainy weekend, be sure to enjoy it!
